Dr Wayne Norval has been Practicing Medicine for more than 24 years. Dr Norval is a Vocationally Registered (Specialist) General Practitioner, and he has his Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Norval is the Practice Principle of Family First Medical Centre and The Graceville Skin Cancer Clinic. Dr Wayne Norval holds his Diploma in Skin Cancer Surgery, and he has his Advanced Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine and Advanced Certificate in Dermoscopy obtained through the Skin Cancer College of Australia. He is one of only 2 Doctors in Hervey Bay that are fully accredited by the Skin Cancer College of Australia. Having recently completed his Skin Cancer Fellowship Exams Dr Norval is passionate about Skin Cancer Medicine and is fully proficient at completing Comprehensive Skin Cancer Skin Checks with the aid of a Mole Scanner, Biopsies, Skin Cancer Excisions including minor and major skin Grafts and Skin flaps. With additional specialised experience in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Psychiatry and Emergency Medicine Dr Norval also continues in his 10th year to be an accredited Supervisor for GP Registrars in training and has since 2018 been approved by AHPRA to be a Primary Supervisor to provide level 1 – 4 supervisions for International Medical Graduates. Currently due to Dr Norval only working as a Skin Cancer Doctor his GP Books are closed.

Dr Sarita Gurung is from Nepal and is one of our mix billing GP’s. She completed her MBBS, obtained her master’s degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and has completed her Master’s in Public Health. Dr Gurung’s special interests are women’s health, preventative health and our skin cancer clinic. Dr Sarita’s is in theatre on Monday’s with patients completing Skin Checks and Skin Excisions. Dr Sarita’s current billing structure is bulk billed for patients under 18, pension card holders, health care card holders and DVA. If you don’t have any of those concession cards, private fees will apply. In her spare time, Dr Sarita loves to listen music, watching movies and spending time with her daughters and friends. Dr Tapash Saha is an experienced GP from Bangladesh and is one of our bulk billing doctors. Dr Saha had worked extensively in general medicine, neurology and cardiology for 4 years gaining experience in Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Bangladesh. He also has obtained his Membership of the Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom (MRCP UK) in 2014. He is interested in chronic disease management, preventive counselling, men’s health, general medicine, cardiology, and our skin cancer clinic. Dr Daniel Gonzalez relocated to Hervey Bay from Melbourne to start practicing with The Family First Team for a long-term placement in 2020. Originally from Mexico, Dr Gonzalez is an experienced GP who started his medical career in the Emergency Department at one of Mexico’s largest public hospitals and has since worked extensively in General Medicine. Daniel Gonzalez is passionate about all areas of General Practice with special interests in chronic disease management, preventative medicine, pediatrics, and mental health. Dr Bhavin Karkar is one of our bulk billing doctors and has 12 months Accident and Emergency Medicine Experience and comes to us with over 10 year’s experience as a General Practitioner and Consulting Physician. With special interests in treating Chronic Conditions, Cardiology, Lung Diseases and Endocrine Disorders we welcome Dr Karkar’s expertise as a permanent member of our Medical Team. Outside of work Dr Bhavin Karkar loves traveling, dogs, cricket and enjoys unwinding with visits to the beach and meditation. Dr Aung Koko relocated to Hervey Bay from Rockhampton in 2022 to start with the Family First Team. Dr Aung worked as an Emergency Medicine Registrar in Jamaica for 4 years prior to coming to Australia. Dr Aung Koko has worked as ED Registrar/ Registrar/ Principal House Officer for 3 years in Rockhampton Base Hospital. Principle House Officer for 3 years in Rockhampton Base Hospital. Dr Aung Koko has special interests in Skin Cancer and has completed his Skin Cancer Course. Dr Chiné Burger one of our mixed billing doctors and is currently on maternity leave. Dr Burger is a South African trained doctor fluent in English and Afrikaans. She has made the move to general practice after gaining numerous years of experience working in a multitude of departments across public hospitals in both South Africa and Australia. Additionally, she has gained significant experience in Australian emergency departments, mastering her diagnostic skills in acute presentations. She has a passion for preventative medicine and educating her patients, empowering them to make choices that will improve their health outcomes and prevent chronic disease. Dr Ken Koko is one of our bulk billing doctors and is originally from Burma. Dr Ken relocated to Australia after spending years in Jamaica gaining experience in primary care and mental health. Dr Ken has years of hospital experience working at Mt Isa, Maryborough and Hervey Bay Hospitals. Prior to joining the team at Family First, Dr Ken was a GP registrar at Childers Family Medicine and Monsour Clinic Maryborough. Dr Ken Koko loves spending time with his son, family and friends, watching soccer matches and playing soccer on weekends with friends or spend time with his toddler son and family on weekends. Dr Kendrew Wong is one of our bulk billing doctors and is originally from Victoria. Dr Kendrew studied medicine at the University of Queensland prior to moving to Hervey Bay to work at Hervey Bay Hospital. Dr Wong likes to be well rounded with all health-related issues and has a special interest in palliative care. On Dr Kendrew’s down time, he enjoys reading, nature, and pop culture. Dr Kyu is one of our mixed billing doctors and graduated from Myanmar with previous work experience in Jamaica. Since moving to Australia 4 years ago, Dr Kyu has worked in Rockhampton, Gladstone, and Hervey Bay Hospitals within different departments.
