MoleMax HD Machine

SKIN CANCER DETECTION

Graceville Skin Cancer Clinic has provided the latest advancement in the Skin Cancer Examination and Screening Program. This is called the Digital Mole Mapping being made possible through the state of the art digital MoleMax HD Machine.

This new technology allows us to see 2mm below your skin. The machine also allows for storage of photos for ongoing comparison seeking for early identification and monitoring of the changes to the skin lesions previously taken.

The use of this revolutionary MoleMax digital scanner has shown there are a number of early warning signs that can be detected in the diagnosis of malignant skin lesions at its earliest stage-thereby reducing guesses and almost eliminate unnecessary skin excisions or biopsies.

The MoleMAX machine allows for a very high magnification with special light frequencies to let the Dr Norval look into the structure of your skin. This technology enables him to scan spots and moles 2mm deep under the skin to determine with great accuracy the likelihood of the presence of Melanoma or other skin cancers. It also has the unparalleled magnification of x 40!

  1. THE MoleMax digital scanner takes a digital image of the mole both on the surface and below the skin, this technology takes a digital image of the mole both on the surface and below the skin. It can also detect patterns not visible under a dermatoscope, which could indicate a malignant melanoma at an early stage of growth.
  2. Our MoleMax can display side-by-side comparisons of the moles on a split computer screen: When people have a lot of moles, it is impossible for their doctor to really remember where every mole is and whether it has changed. MoleMax digital scanner can display side-by-side comparison of the moles on a split computer screen, eliminating doubt, or having to rely on chart notes or patient observation. With the MoleMax, we literally measure the size of the mole with the computer, so you and the doctor know categorically whether it’s bigger or smaller. The magnification also provides greater clarity of the features of the mole, and in some cases, can eliminate the need for a biopsy or excisions.
  3. Now with our Mole Max HD we can visualize the mole more accurately and diagnose with more confidence.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT  DESPITE ALL OUR ADVANCEMENTS IN TECHNOLOGY, NO MELANOMA SURVEILLANCE PROGRAM CAN CLAIM TO BE 100% ACCURATE. THIS IS WHY REGULAR CHECKS WITH YOUR SKIN DOCTOR, BEING AWARE OF CHANGES IN YOUR OWN BODY AND ENSURING YOU NOTIFY DR NORVAL OF ANY CHANGES IN YOUR SKIN LESIONS ARE DISCUSSED AT YOUR APPOINTMENT.

BIOPSIES AND EXCISIONS TO DIAGNOSE SKIN CANCERS

Biopsies will be offered at your Skin Check appointment to confirm the presence of skin cancer. Small biopsies are often taken to confirm non-melanoma skin cancers whereas larger excisional biopsies are often taken to confirm melanoma skin cancers.

DEFINITIVE TREATMENT OF MELANOMA AND NON MELANOMA SKIN CANCERS

Dr Norval’s area of expertise is in the early detection of skin cancers and subsequent management.. Precancerous skin lesions are very common in the Australian population and are easy to treat if detected early. Your treatment options for skin cancer and the precancerous skin lesions will vary, depending on the size, type, depth and location of the lesions. Small skin cancers limited to the surface of the skin may not require treatment beyond an initial skin biopsy that removes the entire growth.
